Rescue Operations:

The function of the Rescue section of the Elmer Ambulance Corps. is primarily to aid in the extrication of patients from their vehicles after a motor vehicle crash has occurred.  Our Rescue, 21-9, is the primary rescue truck for our area of operations, this being Elmer Borough, Upper Pittsgrove Township, Pittsgrove Township (Fire Districts 2 &3).  The actual extrication is handled by members of the squad and members of the fire departments who are certified to the Extrication Technician level or higher.

Members must pass an in-house training and be familiar with the workings of all of the tools and equipment on the truck as well as it’s location on the truck in order to operate the vehicle.  The driver must also be aware of how to engage the PTO on the truck which allows the hydraulic rescue tools to function, as well as the power cord reel and the additional scene lighting.

In the event of a large scale incident or a cardiac arrest, when many people will be needed, the rescue truck is also used as a means of transporting manpower.

The rescue truck can double as a command vehicle and in bad weather such as snow and ice, you may see this truck in front of the ambulance as it is equipped with chains, thus providing a better driving surface for the ambulance.

Rescue is a major function of the Elmer Ambulance Corps and is equally as vital as the patient care function.
